Ernie Ball is really hitting it out of the park right now with their new models .

The 2 Short Scales really have my interest. Mutes, finger ramps…..yes!!

Glad to see these signature models but it makes me ask ….. Why haven’t we seen a Louis Johnson, Bernard Edwards, Gail Ann Dorsey , or Paul S Denman model?

Why have they not upgraded the sterling yet?

  3. Because they don’t need to.
The Stingray Special (aside from the Neo pickups) is a Stingray in Sterling clothing…

I hope they actually keep the Sterling in production, though. Last year they whittled them down to only 2 color options…

  4. Short scale active is a new thing for MM right? And the finger ramp is really cool too, to someone like me who's not a Stingray expert. Seems like it's in a place where I would anchor my thumb on my P.

  5. probably because the First two aren’t around to give feedback on what they’d want in an actual Signature model, and the second two aren’t that popular…

They will probably sell out in a few hours. The ramp and mutes and passive eq should be standard options on all Stingray models.

It has been longer than a year they only offered the two colors. I was looking at them for a while to get a 4 string version of my sterling 5. Was not interested in any of the two color offering so just kept waiting.

Other companies have done it before through the artist family / estate. You just go with a replica . And you donate some proceeds to a charity of their choice.
Aren’t popular ??? What’s that got to do with anything ? But I don’t agree? Gail Ann Dorsey isn’t popular? Really ?o_O

Louis Johnson , Bernard Edwards , and Gail Ann Dorsey are legends. Paul S Denman …I might give you that one but to me these are all players that put the Stingray on the map. Tony Levin, Flea, and John Deacon too.

How so? Sure it's slimmed down, more contoured, but it's a Stingray body shape, not Sterling, and it's a Stingray neck width, not Sterling (J bass like).

I was hoping for more from the Timmy C model TBH. It seems like it's just a SR Special with the classic bridge and a numbered neckplate (for the active ones). Some different pickup/preamp combo IMO would have been nice. Was hoping for the classic preamp w/ 18v and the neo pickup or an alnico pickup with the 18v special pre... meh

Louis Johnson should be a no-brainer, and maybe BE. Not sure about Gail (even with her track record), and don't know Paul.

As a huge RATM and Timmy C. (picked up the bass because of him) fan, I rushed through the link and almost bought one. But it doesn't seem to be anything special or thought through, unlike the Yamaha Peter Hook I bought recently, for example. That is a real signature bass.

And it's quite expensive, for a stock bass with a ramp.

It's clearly aimed at guys like me, who were teenagers in the 90s and now have the means and nostalgy to buy a bass with a neck plate signature.

I would love one, but I won't buy it.

    Because:

Tim has almost always played a natural wood bass, the Stingray with a maple neck and this one has a dark board. Doesn't make sense.
Never seen him with a black one.

Short scale? Tim would laugh heavily at that.

That's no signature model. Very disappointing.

Uh, if you're a company in the business of making money, "popular" has a lot/everything to do with it.

Inarguably logical, but I'd never heard of Alain Caron until Markbass rolled out a signature combo.

Makes me wonder how Flea is feeling about these, as Sterling Ball swore that he would never, never, ever make a signature model Stringray for ANYBODY so Flea went to Fender.

Sterling was adamant that a Stingray is a Stingray and it will never change. Now we have monthly signature models, short scales, Neo pickups....

Im liking short scale passive to go with my regular Stingray. Some of the features are very G&L imo...series, parallel, boost mode

I look for an eventual TB19 five string model.

I didn't think Tim had ever played a short scale, but it's good that they are making them for smaller men. It does seem like a bit of a weird signature model though, as it doesn't really resemble the Stingray that Tim is most often associated with.
